Terms of Service
Effective Date: September 11, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Computers for Change website and, where applicable, your engagement with Computers for Change LLC (“Computers for Change,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By using this website or engaging with Computers for Change for products or services, you agree to comply with these Terms to the extent they apply to your interaction with us. Certain products, repairs, services, or transactions may also be subject to additional terms, estimates, work orders, service descriptions, or authorization forms provided to and approved by the customer.
These Terms are intended to establish general terms for use of our website and services. They do not replace or supersede an individual repair authorization, service intake form, estimate, work order, or other agreement that specifically describes and authorizes work for a particular customer or device.
Website Use
You may use this website for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
You agree not to use the website in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, or interfere with the website or its operation, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the website, its systems, or information belonging to others.
We may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue portions of the website or its content when reasonably necessary.
Services
Computers for Change provides computer and technology-related products and services. Available services and the appropriate approach can vary depending on the device, condition of the equipment, requested work, and other circumstances.
Depending on the situation, a diagnostic or evaluation may be necessary before the final scope of work can be determined. Pricing, turnaround times, parts requirements, and whether a particular repair is feasible may vary based on the circumstances of the service.
Specific repair or service work will be described and authorized separately where appropriate.
Estimates and Service Authorization
Computers for Change may provide an estimate before beginning work. An estimate is based on the information available at the time and may change if diagnosis or repair reveals additional issues or circumstances that were not apparent initially.
If additional work or a material change to the expected cost is identified, Computers for Change will seek customer authorization where appropriate before proceeding.
The applicable estimate, service description, work order, repair authorization, or other customer-approved documentation will govern the specific work being performed on a particular device. Where those documents contain terms specific to the repair or transaction, those terms will apply to that service.
Customer Responsibilities
Customers are responsible for providing accurate information that is reasonably necessary to provide requested services.
Before submitting a device for service, customers should, where applicable:
- Provide accurate contact information.
- Describe known problems or relevant device conditions.
- Disclose known physical or functional damage.
- Provide necessary access information only when it is reasonably required to perform the requested service.
- Back up important files and information whenever possible.
- Remove highly sensitive or personal information from a device where practical.
Computers for Change will not request passwords or other access information unless it is reasonably necessary for the requested service.
Data Backup and Risk of Data Loss
Customers are responsible for maintaining backups of important data before submitting equipment for repair, diagnosis, maintenance, software work, or other service.
Repair and diagnostic work can involve risks to stored information. Data loss may occur because of hardware or storage failure, software problems, malware, existing device conditions, repair procedures, or other circumstances associated with the device.
Computers for Change cannot guarantee that customer data will be preserved or recovered during or after service. Customers should maintain current backups of important information before service whenever possible.
Any limitation of liability relating to data loss is subject to applicable law and does not waive rights or responsibilities that cannot legally be waived.
Existing Damage and Device Condition
Customers should disclose known physical or functional problems with a device before service.
A device may have pre-existing damage, wear, defects, overheating issues, failing components, loose or deteriorating connections, or other underlying conditions that are not immediately apparent. Diagnostic or repair work may reveal or coincide with the failure of a component or device that was already damaged, unstable, or near the end of its usable life.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Computers for Change is not responsible for a device or component that fails during diagnosis or repair when the failure results from a pre-existing condition, ordinary wear, deterioration, or an underlying defect rather than negligence or misconduct by Computers for Change.
When practical, Computers for Change may document significant existing damage or relevant device conditions before performing service.
Device Loss, Theft, or Damage
Computers for Change takes reasonable care of customer equipment while it is in our possession. However, circumstances outside our reasonable control may sometimes result in loss or damage, including burglary, theft, fire, flood, severe weather, natural disasters, utility failures, or similar events.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Computers for Change is not responsible for loss or damage resulting solely from circumstances beyond its reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to waive responsibility for negligence, misconduct, or another obligation that cannot legally be waived.
Parts and Replacement Components
The availability and type of replacement component needed for a repair may affect pricing and turnaround time.
Where applicable, the type of part or component being used will be communicated as part of the estimate, service description, or repair authorization.
Third-party repair or replacement of a device may affect a manufacturer’s warranty or other coverage depending on the device, manufacturer, warranty terms, and nature of the repair. Customers should review the applicable manufacturer’s warranty terms when this is a concern.
Computers for Change does not make a blanket representation that every repair will void or preserve a manufacturer’s warranty.
Abandoned Devices
Customers are responsible for picking up their equipment after being notified that it is ready.
As stated in the service intake form signed when a device is submitted, items left at Computers for Change for more than 30 days become the property of Computers for Change, subject to applicable law.
Computers for Change will use the contact information provided by the customer to send pickup notifications before applying the abandoned-device provision in the signed service intake form. Any additional time provided is a courtesy and does not modify the 30-day provision in the signed intake form or create an obligation to hold equipment for a longer period.
Customers should keep their contact information current and respond promptly to pickup notifications.
Payment and Pricing
Customers will be informed of the work to be performed and its cost before authorized work is completed, and if additional issues are discovered that materially change the proposed work or price, Computers for Change will obtain additional customer authorization before proceeding with the revised work.
Payment for completed repair or service work is generally due when the device is picked up. Computers for Change may require a deposit before ordering an expensive part or incurring a significant parts expense for a customer.
Computers for Change accepts most major credit cards, cash, and Apple Pay. Applicable taxes or other charges may be added where required.
Repair Warranty
Computers for Change does not offer a blanket warranty covering all repair or service work.
Computers and electronic devices vary significantly in age, condition, previous use, existing damage, component health, and other factors outside our control. Completing a requested repair therefore does not guarantee the future performance, lifespan, or condition of the entire device.
Computers for Change will perform the authorized work and test repaired equipment as appropriate before it is returned to the customer.
Any warranty applicable to a replacement part depends on the specific part and supplier, as described above. No particular warranty should be assumed unless it is communicated for the specific product, part, or transaction.
Separate warranties may apply to refurbished devices sold by Computers for Change. Any applicable warranty for a refurbished device will be governed by the terms provided with that sale rather than these general repair Terms.
